What we offer

Each school in NSW offers something slightly different depending on the community. Here's what we offer for you.

School Band

The School Band plays an important role in our school community. It provides students with a well-rounded musical education which also has proven benefits in many other areas of a child's social and academic development.

The Band program is run in collaboration with the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music, who provide experienced conductors and specialist teachers for each instrument. A new intake of students is taken each year and the recruitment process for this usually commences Term 4, targeted at Year 2 and 3 students (and new students to Valley VIew).

Valley VIew has two bands:

  • The Concert Band (comprising students from Years 4-6)
  • The Training Band (comprising of beginner students from years 3-4)

Typically students commence in the Training Band from year 3 (although older students are also welcome), and after tuition and rehearsals over 1-2 years, progress to the Concert Band.

The Conservatorium's qualified teachers and conductors offer weekly group lessons (or individual lessons on request), as well as weekly band rehearsals. Students may choose to hire their instruments through the school, the Conservatorium or through other avenues.

Opportunities to perform in front of friends and family are offered at school assemblies, presentation days, education week, as well as community events (including Christmas Carols, Fetes). Students who participate in the school Band Program are also given the opportunity to combine with other Central Coast schools in the Conservatorium's annual Big Day Out event (whole day band workshop and combined schools performance) as well as their annual Band Festival.

It truly is a wonderful opportunity to allow students to develop and explore their musical interests.

Canteen

All canteens in NSW public schools must meet certain requirements. These include providing more healthy food and drink options – to make the healthy choice an easy choice for students. Visit Healthy school canteens to learn more.

Uniforms

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.
